The Nation of Aether (meaning: upper air of the sky) is the Pokemon-of-Avalon group's equivalent of all the nations of Medieval Europe. It is ruled by Alaric the shiny Serperior from the capital city of the same name, who previously ruled Adonai on another continent. Its patron is the legendary Pokemon Ho-oh.

History

For a long, long time, the nation now known as Aether didn’t even have a name. The land was comprised of a bunch of people who formed towns and cities that were all separate. Though there was one time that 2,000 years ago, a tribe of people from the moon came and created their kingdom where the capital city now stands, only for it to be destroyed 1,000 years later. People from all over the surrounding area then began to avoid it, believing it to be haunted by the ghosts of all the people who perished that horrible day.

Then recently, survivors from the former kingdom of Adonai on another continent came ashore and began to inhabit the old kingdom once more, much to the concern of Pausanius, the ruler of Artiphron. He began to wonder if the ruler, King Alaric, was the one who was to fulfill a certain prophecy, and made the subjects of the land go through the Trial of Wisdom. After they successfully returned, he said that he’d come again sometime to help them go through the next two test in the future.

About a month later, King Alaric asked for suggestions as to what the name of not just their kingdom, but their entire nation should be, and Amy Apirana Sumiura the Jigglypuff came up with the name he accepted: Aether.

It seems that several months later, ghosts from the old kingdom that was destroyed 1,000 years ago are coming back...

Description

The area that the nation of Aether occupies has many different towns and cities, but there are four distinct cultures that we shall refer to as the “English”, “French”, “Scottish”, and “Spanish.”

In the “English” culture, scholars and storywriters thrive, as there are many epic stories already written such as “Beowolf” and “Canterbury Tales”. Churches are also very important buildings in which the priests not only conduct worship services, but they keep track of how many people were in town via documents. In this culture, people are separated into social classes ranging from kings at the very top to nobles, knights, freedmen, and finally, serfs. This is a system known as Feudalism in which the nobles own the land, and serfs have to pay a certain amount of money each year to be allowed to live on and farm the land. It is also a great place for tailors due to an active textile industry, and metalworkers help provide the weapons and armor the knights need to protect the nobles’ lands. The knights receive land in exchange for loyalty and service to the nobles. In addition to swords, bows and arrows are also common weapons in this society.

The people of the “Scottish” culture tend to speak with notable Scottish accents. Their form of government tends to be a Parliament in which elected people could help govern the towns. Knights are a lot rarer in the Scottish culture than the English, with spearpeople, archers, and sailors comprising the majority of their armies, but they are still around. Farmers and fishermen are very self-sufficient, and can export their goods for money. Monasteries help provide education for people. Stoneworkers also have lots of work since they help design many of the castles, especially to accommodate cannons. Musicians and bards are very well known to provide entertainment here with their distinct musical styles.

“French” culture also has Feudalism, though the clergy play important roles in helping to pass laws and educate people. Architects of this culture are known for creating churches in a style known as Gothic in which large, stain-glass windows help to illuminate the incredibly large interiors of churches, and these churches are specially designed to handle the large population of worshipers. (Fortresses are also designed in the Gothic style.) Knights are numerous, well-trained, and extremely powerful in this culture. Merchants and farmers sell goods in large cities, where scholars, writers, artists, musicians, and performers are all common, and so were large schools to educate people.

Finally, the “Spanish” culture, while having their own distinct languages, utilize the Feudalism system as well, and their knights are among the most powerful in the nation. Warfare is their primary way of making money, and archers are often used to hold off enemies until the more powerful knights come to fight. Merchants and craftsmen often live close to the nobles in their cities, which are centers of art and literature. Carpenters have many jobs in the cities too, as Spanish houses are among the most beautifully desgined around.
